How do you appeal to families, gamers, geeks & retro gaming buffs in cosmopolitan Paris? You toss them together in a lively illustration of a Parisian gaming paradise having conversations about the things they love. “Entertaining, vibrant, fun” are traits video game lovers universally seek out and provide the theme behind the illustration I was commissioned to create for Videogame Story, an epic expo showcasing the history of video games. The show, hosted at Paris Expo – Porte de Versailles from 30th June to 7th September 2014 has been put together by and for video game fans, from all eras, ages and styles.

Look carefully at the illustration’s details. Which character most resembles the gamer in you?

From Texas to France

Melissa Brunet

Born and raised in Texas, Melissa travelled to NYC for an interview with Tim Gunn, then Dean of Admissions at Parsons, the New School for Design, where she received a 4-year merit scholarship based on a fine art portfolio. After graduating with honors in 1990, she went on to establish an international career in Paris, working in fields as diverse as fashion, technology and advertising. A French inspired talent and American work ethic helped her to thrive. Throughout her career, she managed a design studio, dealt with demanding clients for big brands, ran her own business and formed solid relationships with creative professionals from every horizon. In the meantime, she also found the time to start a Franco-American family! Her keen eye for trends, culture and glamour along with her vibrant interest in art de vivre, form the basis for what she calls Pixel Glamour – the niche field which perfectly unites the disciplines she loves most: fashion, fine art and graphic design. Her illustrations, a culmination of these three styles, are published in several reputable online design & illustration communities.
