Moving along with my illustration “Gangs of Deauville“, here is the badge that will dress up and add the final touch to the composition.
Looking at it now I can see there are many more improvements I could make. Part of my process is going back and forth, adding and taking away, until the composition or design feels perfectly balanced and finished. I’ve noticed that posting online, whether on my blog or on Dribbble, helps me to immediately identify weaknesses – an unexpected and welcome outcome. It’s as if the mistakes are invisible until they’ve been posted in public!
Aside from tweaking the graphics, I do feel the concept is finished. A badge is always a nice design element and since the illustration is about resort wear, it further reinforces the nautical theme. Additionally, I’ve added to the tongue in cheek flavor of the piece with the following Latin phrases: Veni Vidi Vici (I came, I saw, I conquered) and Vae Victis (Woe to the conquered) – suitable phrasing for fashionistas who are perfectly aware of their powers of seduction.
